In januari 2022 wist Nicole zich op het heuvelachtige Buninyong circuit te kronen tot Australisch kampioene op de weg, nadat ze in de slotfase solo wegreed uit een kopgroep. Een bijzondere prestatie gezien Nicole pas aan haar vierde wedstrijdseizoen bezig is. “Qua leeftijd ben ik één van de oudere rensters, maar qua fietsjaren niet. Bij Parkhotel Valkenburg hoopt ze veel te leren van haar teamgenoten. De overstap naar een Nederlands team gaat tezamen met een verhuizing naar de andere kant van de wereld. Huis en haard verlaat ze om haar wielerdroom na te jagen.



What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Maybe sky diving or bungee jumping. But really I don’t think it’s too crazy. Some people may also think taking the risk of moving to the other side of the world for cycling is a bit crazy too.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would that be?

Sometimes I think I overthink the small things, but really I think that also contributes to the person and athlete I am and so it’s okay 🙂 I think as I have gotten older I have learnt that it’s okay to have your weaknesses and strengths and more important isn’t about changing them it’s about understanding them and what role they play.

Who inspires you? And why?

I love riders like Kasia, Cecilie but also fellow Australians like Grace Brown and Brodie Chapman. I really love their racing styles which are aggressive and taking opportunities. I also love how Grace started later like me and that makes me feel confident that I can do that too.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? And from who?

My boss, Ben Crowley is often someone I have gone to for advice in life, relationships, just myself as a person and our discussions are often so helpful in me understanding myself or even understanding other people in a situation. Understanding that the choices I make in life have an outcome in other things I do. I don’t think there is one piece of advice I would single out but I am really lucky to have him as a friend too who has helped me through a lot of things over the years.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

My dog because she has the best life.

If you were a brand, what would be your motto?

‘You don’t know if you don’t try’

What is your favorite family tradition?

Christmas. We don’t really have a major tradition for it, I just love the time of year and spending time with my family.

If I weren’t a professional cyclist, I would be?

Probably just in Product Development as I was 🙂

What is your goal for 2022?

To gain as much experience as I can from those around me on and off the bike. Also I really want to learn more Dutch 🙂

Favorite place to ride your bike?

So many places! I loved Italy, Spain and now France but also I always love Tasmania Australia where I am. I am really lucky to have amazing roads in my backyard.

Twee wedstrijden. Twee kansen op succes. Eerst zaterdag 1 oktober in de Giro dell’Emilia en op dinsdag 4 oktober met de Tre Valli Varesine.

ALLES OF NIKS

Terugblik op de kortste meerdaagse die er is. Tour de la Semois. Twee ritten, twee dagen. En regen. Heel veel regen. Het was ook de natste meerdaagse in tijden.

14 september 2022. De dag van de allereerste Grisette Grand Prix de Wallonie. Een voorbeschouwing op deze 136 kilometerslange klassieker.

EEN ONVERGETELIJKE TOUR

Waar moet ik beginnen? Bij de bollen van Fem? De bollen van die andere Fem? De salto mortale van Anne? De mediastorm over Nicole? De triatlete die ik geen triatleet meer mag noemen? Mischa die Alpencols bedwingt alsof ze traint op de Posbank? Ray die een handtekening zet onder zijn eigen rennersfoto van ver voor de oorlog? (Met veel meer haar). De grootste supporter die er bestaat Bart heet? Hij kan zo mee in de tourkaravaan, maar zit toch liever bij ons achter het stuur.
